Wondering about baby gifts?

angelinadawson07 asked:

My husband and i are expecting our first child early sept. We have set up an account on BabiesRUS for our family to buy us gifts for the baby if they want to. What is a proper waiting time to wait for them to get us gifts until we just buy them ourselves?? So how long should we wait until we just buy the things ourselves? Also My husband and i are both stationed overseas in korea. Im sixth months pregnant which means i cant fly. Our families is not throwing us a shower due to that reason. We just wanted our families to feel involved thats why we put up the registery in the first place. we dont expect people to buy gifts this is a “if you want” kind of thing.

Well all you need for the first few weeks are baby grows, vests, a bath, changing mat, crib, steriliser, bottles, dummies and lots of nappies. I would ask to be notified when your loved ones have bought the things then you know what is left. Personally, I loved buying everything myself and even more so after baby was born because I loved showing them off!
As for not flying past six months - I thought it was after 8 months? Check with the airline and if you want to return home, shop around for different airlines. They all have different policies.
All the best for your new bundle of joy!

I am in the army, and when I gave birth to my first child I was far away from my family as well. What I did was check the box to receive gift cards and every pay period I would start buying the important items (crib, car seat, the stuff you cant live without) As I did this I checked these items as received on my registry and kept moving forward.
This worked well for my situation, and if yours is like mine (as I think it is) this should work for you as well.
