What is your idea of the most useful baby gift?

Kristi62870 asked:

I’m going to a baby shower for a girl who has not registered anywhere and needs everything. I want to get her something she needs (but not diapers, clothes or a gift certificate). Is there any item that you feel you cannot live without in the under $30.00 range? Thanks!!!

If your not gonna give her a gift certificate so she can get what she wants…then get her something she won’t forget…

I know it’s not cutesy, (It could be packaged that way, I guess) but the most memorable gift I got for my first baby 5 years ago was a medicine kit. The lady bought Baby Motrin, Baby Tylenol, gas medicine, Orajel, nail clippers, a thermometer, and other things you don’t think about until you need them. She put them in a little plasic box I could keep them in. It was very thoughtful.

Make a nice basket filled with bottles, comb, brush, nail clippers, lotion, baby shampoo, baby wipes, wash cloths, nail clippers, that little sucker thing for their nose, etc….. I do that often for baby showers and it is ALWAYS a big hit.

a bath tub ring is a great item not everyone thinks about. It sits in the tub for baby so you don’t have to keep one hand on em all the time and they can sit by themselves. It’s for when they are too big for the baby tub and still too small for the big tub. Or how about a fully stocked diaper bag? Wipes diapers socks bottle onsie bib pacifiers etc. Or a laundry basket with dreft baby washes wash cloths and some downy free fabric softner hooded towels or a diaper genie. and a refill? I used mine for a while.

I recently had a baby boy. He is twelve weeks old and the thing that he loves most is his mobile. This was the first thing he paid any attention to other than people. It was well worth the 40.00 I paid for it. You can get cheaper ones at Wal-Mart or Target. You may also consider a bouncy seat they come at different prices. Good Luck!!!

A baby monitor, or (if she’s decided not to breastfeed) baby bottles of her choice. How about some receiving blankets - they keep baby cozy, and can double as spit cloths when burping. A really neat baby book (from Hallmark stores) is a great gift, and one she may not think about.

a diaper Gennie! found at wal-mart,
it is a trash can specially made for smelly baby diapers. keeps that horrible smell out of the house and puts each diaper in it’s own little trash bag inside the can. when it’s full it looks like a huge link sausage! all my friends loved it

Probably a basket full of necessities such as nail clipper, bottles, nipples, anti-rash cream (DESITIN is the BEST), hair brush, suction nose drip thingy, etc. You get the picture. They are the things you would probably buy separately, but they do have them in department stores as a whole item. Good Luck!! :-)

At Wal-Mart, they sell gift sets. There’s some with bath products, and some with other things. The most useful one I seen, was one that came in a big plastic case. It had infants tylenol, motrin, diaper rash cream, gas drops, and a whole bunch of other stuff. And honestly, the most useful gifts I got were diapers. So I would maybe get one of the gift sets, and if you have the extra money, get a pack of diapers as well.

Diaper Genie
Film if they have a non-digital camera
Photo album
Bottles
Baby shampoo, body wash, lotion, diaper rash cream, baby powder, baby safety Q-Tips, nail clippers….

Someone gave me baby food, baby cereal, baby spoons, and sippy cups…I didn’t need it right away, but it was great because you mostly get things for a newborn…people forget they grow up so fast while they’re shopping for a gift!!

No matter what you decide to give make sure you include a receipt!!

My favorite baby shower gift was a basket fill with inexpensive baby stuff. Like wash clothes, pacifiers, little socks, rattles and baby medicine. Even the basket we use now to keep some of her toys in.

You could get a baby tub and fill it with shampoo, soap, baby wash, washcloths. Get a walker and she can already have it when the baby is ready for it it. Maybe a stroller or a swing. Usually can get those under $30 at Walmart. Find out what bottles she is gonna use and get a few extra of those. The best gift I got was diapers. My daughter is 4 months and I’ve only had to buy a couple packs since she was born.
