I need some ideas for creative, unusual and CHEAP baby gifts?
Lady Catherine asked:
I have six friends who are expecting. SIX! What are some really unique, stunning gifts that you have given or received that won’t break the bank? I’m not talking boring practical things. I want to give the expectant mothers something that they would not buy themselves. Links would be appreciated too. TIA!
Nice answers only please. Prejudice against children is not welcome.

far out 6….
what I do is go n get a basket n fill it evrything that they mite need like bathing, socks, botties, nursing pads…
but 6 women that will be hard…
Diapers are always good, you can just make a simple gift basket,
Need- Basket, socks, diapers, soap, purell, onsies and stuff
Buy in bulk then divide the stuff up make each one a little different.
you should make like a “care pack” for the moms like ear plugs, tylenol, an eye mask (for sleeping) stuff like that…its kind of a funny thing, and it will definitely come in handy….
What I gave at the last shower I attended was a mommie basket. It was May, so I put in a couple of summer shade nail polishes, yummy hand cream, bath oil in a really great scent, a bath pillow and some other pamper stuff. I got it all on sale really inexpensive. I think all of it was like $22.
For another friend I gave her a certificate to get her a pedicure. It was $30. She loved it, she said she has not been able to see her feet in months, so she loved it. A third that was more expensive, but not so bad was I got certificates for dinners at places that offered take out in our area. I know she would not want to make dinner, so I got $20.00 certificates to a couple of places. They used them the first week they brought baby home. Just some ideas.
Hi! I had the same problem!!
Go buy some huggies travel wipes in the small plastic boxes, and decorate the boxes! They will look cool and be very unique!.
You can use cool fabrics, trims, and just make sure they are all glueddown well, because they will be used a lot!!
Its also really easy to sew baby pants, and applique little images (flowers butterflies trucks teddy bears) to onsies to make a matching set!
How about a handprint/footprint kit:
Particularly if it’s a first child, those moms-to-be are going to be spending a peck of money on books. You can put together a nice little package for peanuts. Be sure to include books like “Goodnight Moon”, “I’ll Love You Forever”, “Where the Wild Things Are”, etc.
Another thing those Moms will be spending lots of money on are picture frames. If you know the color/theme of the nursery, get a nice frame and add a picture of a character (Mickey, Barney, etc.), an animal (teddy bear, bunny rabbit) or just a scene that goes with the nursery. They will be happy to have that frame once they start all of the picture taking!
Everyone will be buying baby clothes. Personalize yours. If you have a sewing machine that does embroidery, great. Or you can use iron on letters. Is Mom a friend of yours from college? How about a onesie or a bib that says “My Mom went to Princeton and all I got was this stupid onesie”, etc. You get the idea.
I like the idea for gifts for the Mom but some of the nice things I received were:
~ Nice baby products (not Johnson & Johnson) - there is a brand California Baby which has nice, good products and we love it - like Cranky Spray (which works!). You could do a small basket w/ nice baby stuff.
~ I love my Memory Calendar b/c I so don’t have time to write in her book! But, I can fill in later.
~ If they are breastfeeding, you go thru pads so fast - they would love these:
Also, just a nice, super soft blanket is so good - this is my FAVE!!!!:
Best of luck w/ all that shopping - do it online and check for coupon codes to save you some dough
I just went through this. I bought some things for my friends that mostly likely they wouldnt have thought of. most people get clothes, blankets, ect.. i picked out like thermometer, medicine giving kit, car accessories, nail clipping kit, and orajel, gas drops, and diapers and wipes are always great!!
