Baby shower gifts - are many just “wasted space”?
littlemomma711 asked:
I’m pregnant with my first child, and my husband doesn’t mean anything mean by saying this, but he thinks that a lot of the things I will get from my baby shower are going to be wasted space. Obviously not the big items that we’ll really need like the crib, stroller, carseat, etc. But, I was just wondering if you think this statement is somewhat true, or did you use everything you received as gifts?

It was about 50/50 for me…. Half the stuff was great and I still use it to this day, for example, I received LOADS of diapers and wipes, and we also got a red wagon, a diaper genie, clothes, etc.
Then I got the dumb stuff like the wipe warmer (what a waste of money), the baby food rack (yeah, right), receiving blankets everywhere (I think I have about 30 of them, lol).
It just depends.

I USED EVERYTHING I GOT….YOU GET A LOT OF CLOTHES NORMALLY AND THEY GET CHANGED ALOT….AND I RECEIVED SOME DUPLICATES LIKE TWO BATH TUBS AND ALL I DID WAS TAKE THEM TO THE STORE AND GOT STORE CREDIT FOR THEM AND GOT SOMETHING ELSE I NEEDED…..BUT IT SURE WASNT A WASTE FOR ME…..

i used almosta ll of what i got. the only thing were some boy crib sheets i got 4 my daughter, which i saved and later used with my son. mostly you will get diapers, outfits and other cute things people not having a baby will enjoy buying.
one thing that is wasted space in both my kids rooms are…….
STUFFED ANIMALS
let your kids have 1 or 2 they love but more then that is clutter, usueless and a waste of money. i **** stuffed animals and i wish i never bought them!!!
PS I LOVED my wipe warmer and i dont have much cupord space so i would like a baby food caddy right about now. i agree about receiving blankets but in the beginign i washed and changed them quite frequently but now that is he older then 4 months i NEVER use them anymore, more then 4 or 5 is unnessacary

it was definately true for me. I have bags and bags of stuff that i will never use. I got probly 50 bottles sooooo many bathtowels.. People buy cheap stuff sometimes and you know you got better so you use the better stuff. Or you got more than one of something.. be ready for the extra stuff!! But you can always regift at another shower!!!

My baby shower was wonderful for getting a head start on a lot of the stuff I needed. I got lots of nice things, and I use all of them. The only thing I got that was bulky was a glider chair but I really wanted it for the nursery. My favorite gift was a Fisher Price Sensory Selections bouncy chair. My daughter loves it and we use it every day! Anything you don’t need you can always donate or return. Watch out for the baby blankets…for some reason people love to give those I ended up with so many.

It is somewhat true but still worth it. I mean, I ended up with so many useless stuffed animals! Everyone still gets my baby stuffed animals as gifts and not to be rude but they take up so much space. I don’t know what to do with them all! I also got alot of clothes that were size 2 and 3T! So those will be in the back of the closet for awhile. lol Mostly, I got so many things that I did use so I can’t really complain about it though.lol. You just pass on the items you didn’t use to someone else who might.

We dont do baby showers here in the UK but a lot of the gifts I got once the baby was born were a bit useless, the bottle warmer that too ages to heat up, the extra bath (we used the second as a toy box as we couldnt return it to the shop), endless blankets, and too many tiny outfits that even if I’d changed the baby 5 times a day he wouldnt have worn them all before he’d outgrown them!

I LOVE my wipes warmer, and the baby food conter space thing got alot of use at my house. When I had my boy several years back, I didn’t get a baby shower, and no body really gave me anything. I was lucky to buy a crib and car seat and a few clothes for him, which were all second hand thrift store stuff. I kept thinking to myself, I sure could use this or that, so when my little girl came along, we bought and got at the shower EVERYTHING that you could think of. Whereas with my first one, I probably would have used most of it, with her, I didn’t hardly use any of it.
It all depends on you whether you use it or not.

I used about 75% of everything I got but I all I asked for was diapers and gift cards. My first was a boy and had plenty of clothes because I have 2 young nephews. Receiving blankets are a wastes of money unless you like to sew and then you can make a quilts out of them. But my family and friends are very practical people and so it was very nice.
