Am I the only person who hates “creative” gifts at a baby shower?

Alyssa’s mommy asked:

Maybe I am just a more practical person or something but I don’t find clothes wadded up with rubber bands to look “like a baby” to be cute, nor do I find diaper cakes to be all that enjoyable. “Yay, thanks for the diapers that I now have to spend hours to undo. Yay.”

What happened to just giving nice gifts in a box? Use some elegant gift wrap and ribbon if you need to let your artistic side out…
Or maybe I am just having a bad day… I dunno, I’m really moody today.
I don’t mean at MY baby shower. I mean at baby showers in general that I attend, you know, with gift in hand. Its been years since my shower, I don’t think it was as trendy to do crafts back then.

HA! That’s hilariously spot on. I agree with all of it! It kind of sounds like some Seinfeld dialogue…

My wife is very artistic and i am, well… NOT! i could care less about stuff like that. That doens’t mean i’m going to love my daughter an less!! She gets mad when I’m just like… What, they couldn’t just wrap that? I don’t think that makes me ungrateful at all.

People are just trying to spruce up their gifts. Some people like to go outside of the normal baby shower gifts. My aunt made me a wreath of diapers, which I found to be nice.

I think you are just having a hormonal day though. :) I hope you feel better.

well, i think you are just mooody, not to be rude or anything, but you should be thankful to that person, do you know how long it takes to make a diaper cake?!!? So what, you might have to spend 10 minutes undoing it, but they prpbably spent hours making it, and JUST for you.

You may be having a bad day. When people give you a gift they give it because they care about you and your baby. Just overlook the way stuff is wrapped and enjoy it. They are having fun. Good luck!

You could get nothing at all at a shower. Or things you can’t use. I think the fact that someone puts lots of time into the creative gifts means a lot. I was given both a “baby” and a diaper cake at my shower and I was amazed at how they did it. I now make diaper cakes for my family members baby showers and they all seem to really like them.

You may be moody and having a bad day but there really isn’t a reason to be downgrade something given in love for a happy occassion.

no I totally agree.. in most cases people buy the diaper cake or the shirt bunched up to look like a baby and it cost more then the actual item itself. why not use that money to get more.. also another pet peeve of mine is when they spend like a ton at the dollar store and it’s junk.. why not spend that same amount of money and buy 1 good quality item.

I agree with you moody or not lol! My step mother is always sending me these stupid, ridiculous hand made gifts. Drives me nuts because half of the time they aren’t even usable! And I think its kind of a slam on me well because she’s kind of a *****! But that’s besides the point. The point is, with all of the financial struggles my fiance and I have had the past few months since having had our baby, on holidays and birthdays I’d much rather be given something I can use like a target gift card so I can go out and buy a pack of diapers, rather than a handmade wooden box to put my sons stuffed animals in (yea she made that) YAY *sarcasm.*
Bring on the thumbs down, but sweet, handmade gifts are meant for Valentines day, and thats it!!

Sounds like you are just having a bad day. Let’s face it, some people shouldn’t do crafts, but it is the thought that counts!

Anyway, next time you feel like you want something “non-crafty”, check out our unique, practical, and affordable baby gifts.

Good point about the rubber bands though!
